Been Lying to Myself Have to go Left
« on: September 30, 2011, 03:59:00 PM »
I'm going to shoot the season out shooting right but I will be going to left hand in the near future, when will all depend on if I either get a deer or when archery season ends in December. I am right handed and left eye dominate but that really isin't the concern as I can hold my own when shooting but an old back injury that kept me from archery for years is slowly coming back, not as bad as it was but I don't want to go through that again. I do have an old Bear recurve that can be shot on either side of shelf and I'll start out with that. Once I adapt I'll get a left handed riser for the Buffalo.

I'm considering going to right handed for a similar reason. Can't seem to get the shoulder better. I'm right handed, left eye so don't think I would have a problem. Just have so many left handed bows so I really want the shoulder to get better instead.. which i'm working on.

Maybe you guys could swap bows? RH'er but traded for a LH bow 6 months ago to try to learn. Coming along nicely. Good luck.

I switched to mainly left at targets and sitting on my Huntmore hunting, word to the wise, start out light when going to the other side. your joints, ligaments and muscly things will need to get used to the strain from the other side, you don't want a fresh injury trying to avoid an old one.

I think I'm going to pick up a Samik in about 30# range to get going. I have a dual shelf Bear but it's 45# Only thing is I won't have any arrows for it.

Went right eye blind a few years back started shooting lefty and only took a couple months to get the hang of it.

One kinda neat thing is it really upsets all my shooting buddies they can not shoot all my nice bows.

Arrow Flynn:  I had a really bad shoulder 2 years ago. I had a series of 3 cortizone shots orer 3 months. Shoulder has been fine ever since, now if I could just get my elbow to stop hurting.....   :dunno:  RW

Rotator cuff and bone spur in my right shoulder will require surgery down the road. I'm limited to about 20-30 arrows Right Handed during my practicing.

I began in Feb to shoot left handed. I started slow drawing back 35#, working on my anchor and form. Once satisfied, I started shooting 5 yds in my shop working on my release. May I began shooting a 43# lefty 15-20 yds. I stayed this way one month until I was confident. Every now and then my right eye takes over and the arrow hits left.

In July, my hunting buddy gave me his 54# Fedora to shoot. At my 27" draw, I was pulling 52#. I can handle this weight comfortably now. Two months of hard work has paid off. I'm now shooting out to 35 yds with confidence. Four weeks
ago I ordered myself a Fedora H560, 52# at 27" in left hand.

Still waiting....my goal this year is to take a few deer with both my RH and LH bows. My keys were form, solid anchor and clean release. Once I achieved those goals, increasing the weight was next. I took my time to build up to 52#. I could pull 55# but I'm so comfortable at 52#.

Definitely the light bow and don't be frustrated at nocking an arrow. I'm right handed/left eyed, so switched to lefty and I found doing the little things the hardest. But after a few 100 arrows, it gets easier.
