Here's the Motley Crew....
Karl, Me, Keith, and Doug....
Karl won the hunt, and got to see SEVEN bears that weekend. I have never seen the like of bear sign in my life as I did that weekend.
I got a great stalk on a 250#er that came off a steep bank and went 10 yards past a tree I'd leaned up against for 10 minutes....wish I would have waited another 3 minutes and this guy would have been in my lap.
It was a really cool scene let me tell ya...it was misty that morning, like you may have seen in one of my favorite hunting pics of all time which was a misty morn at Cohutta....and the terrain was ferns and patchy briers. What made this scene so unique is that I could not see the bears legs at all for the 1st 30 yards I saw him traveling downhill....he looked like he was standing on a sled and gliding down the mountain in slow motion.
Anyhow, I put a sneak on him and stayed around 35-40 yard for a while just trying to get close being careful not to make any noise due to it being so dry this year. Well, I couldn't see underfoot very well, and I finally stepped on a nickle sized stick and man what a snap it made....and the jig was up. But it sure was fun while it lasted.
Karl, again, the St Jude winner had a close encounter with a 300 #er but it didn't work out.
We all had a blast and ate great.....too bad the season ended and I never got time to go back. I just didn't get my 'Cohutta Fix' this year at all. Long wait till next year.
Here's a couple more pics ....
Just wanted to put up a post so folks would know the hunt took place and it was yet another great St Judes Adventure.
