Congratulations!  Bear meat is excellent, my family likes it best cut in roasts and slow cooked in the crock pot with carrots, onions and potatoes at the end.  Yum!

I am headed to VA in 2 days for deer, bear and turkey, up towards Roanoke on NF land.  Can I ask - how is the acorn crop this fall?  I am getting mixed reports.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone!!

My young man is addicted for sure, he has been for three years now!!  The only thing that could have made the hunt any sweeter for me would have been if it would have worked out to where he could have killed it.  Ive reassured him that he will have plenty of opportunities at his own bear...and he knows that Im telling him the truth!!!

Jeff...I belive that the mast crop this year is average, I have found plenty of nuts to hunt over, but not an over abundance that makes finding a real hot spot tough.

Congrats, great story and you are blessed to have such a great hunting buddy. You are right about the Bear population same thing in my neck of the woods. I live outside of Princeton, lots more in this area than used to be.

Excellent! I loved the part about your son about crawling up your back! You're a blessed man to have that shared time with him!  :)

I love it great story! I would have liked to have been there to see your son's reaction when the bear growled!

I thought my son was going to climb my back when the bear growled!! This made me laugh out loud
