Montana elk father/son hunt

I just want to start out by saying if you ever have the chance to take your kids on  a hunt of a lifetime do it because the memories last forever.
My son and I just returned from a bow hunt in Hamilton, MT with "Two Bear Outfitters".  Alan is a great guy and puts on an awesome camp, and in its self is worth the trip.  But back to the hunt, we arrived in camp 27 Sept at around 1000 am via horseback and were able to get settled in.  We then tested our bows out and were right on the money. So we headed out that evening looking for some elk.  Wouldn't you know it within 30 min from camp we ran into some cows and calfs, that was awesome for my son to see that the first night.  The next morning is worth everything about this trip.  We hiked into an area that is about 1 1/2 hours from camp and were able to locate a bull right away.  We were aggressive and went after him.  We got within 200yds and decided to split up and the guide took my son and I went with another guy to try and pinch the bull.  My son was able to get within 45yds of a 350 class bull just screaming and tearing everything up within sight.  They really got him mad and my son had to hold for about a minute which is to long and he felt good about the shot but fell short.  If that isn't enough for the rest of the week he was inside of 25 yds of bulls no less than 300 class.  The shots weren't there or other spikers were in the way.  He had a small spike stick his head in an opening just five yds away and stare at him while a 330 bull was 25yds away just behind the spiker.  It was an awesome time even though we didn't have another shot but the memories that last a lifetime.   I want to go back next year and hopefully move out there in the next few years.  If you ever are looking for a great guide that will put you on some awesome bulls check out "Two Bear Outfitters".  Alan Carter puts on an awesome camp and Mirna the cook with put some great eats in front of you.  You will actually be looking forward to returning back to camp each and every night.

I am hoping that next year will yield something to ponder on for a life time, via a mount or some meat.  This hunt really brought my son and myself so much closer and were able to share things that we probably wouldn't of here at home.  I can't wait for the next hunt and the memories to come.  Thanks for reading and look forward to next year.  He now realizes what it takes to hunt the big "Timber Ghosts" and he should be a little more prepared next time.

I did 22 days in the CO backcountry with my 18 yr old son this fall. the hunting wasnt all that great, but we had a complete riot. By far the best trp Ive ever been on. Hes hooked, and we'realready planning for next year. He and I hunt togther a lot.

wow,thats what i'm preparing for.my 10 year old shoots well and he's gettin his chops built for the hunt,workin for the continued strength and preparing for the opportunities for the years to come,planning on hunting into the centarian years,or at least to die tryin. way to go.

That is awesome and I hope that anyone that has a chance to hunt with your kids, spouse and or parents for the first time, do it.  It is the most memorable time spent together whether you harvest memories or an animal, the time spent together last's a lifetime.  This is something no one can take from you.
