tom,

thanx for your support, and the support of all the folks contributing to help pay our monthly bills.

the problem that terry and i have had for years is our ubb forum software - it was grandfathered about 6 years.  if you know something about forum software, ubb is/was the best flat file forum software in its heyday.

since then, forum software has progressed to a relational mysql database platform that offers all the bells 'n' whistles we require, which includes auto image resizing and other much needed improvements such as a registration "captcha" check to stop the hundreds (yes, 100's!) of daily spam bots from registering (which is why i've been manually registering all new members since the beginning of this year - you wanna talk about work?!  yikes!).

what all that stuff means is that we need to get off ubb and onto mysql.  we've tried that at least 5 times, with different mysql software vendors and all have failed miserably, so far.  trad gang is just too big, too robust, too dang *complicated*.

so although money is always an issue, the real roadblock is the software conversion, and so far there are no clear cut answers to make that happen.  but we're definitely still trying.  we have to, we have no choice.

much obliged, sir.  :notworthy:    :campfire:

rob.

not sure what your point was. I was asking a question not trying to push buttons. And I dont read the bible. I am a moderator on 60,000+ member national hunting site so I know how difficult it can be to make sure everything is running right and everyone is happy. But again I was honestly curious which is why I asked.

Is there a software out there that can be set on autopilot and police this issue for our site?  If so, what is the price tag for something like this? It might be time for a software upgrade fund drive.

At the time of this post I count nine members that are not current on donating $20 to the site. The way I understand it, this contribution money goes to upgrades and maintenance to the site. Am I right about that, Rob?

Twenty bucks is a bargain for the amount of fun I get from this site. I can’t be the only one who gets way more than twenty dollars worth of fun from this site.

Tom you make a great point, I just took a brief minute to look at what I spend on hunting stuff that I really don't need every year and Thought about how much I have learned here and 20$ doesn't even come close to putting a number on the value of what I have gained here. I'm Going to contribute right now.

Oops, guilty as charged. I too sized on photobucket the proper size but must have ended up too large here.  Sorry guys it sure wasn't intentional.  I'll try a different method next time.  What is the best size?

I made comments on this in the HH bug thread before seeing this one so I won't repeat.

but how will the OP know why the entire thread was deleted? If I post up a great thread and someone else puts a huge pic on it and the entire thread gets deleted while im at work how do I know why it was pulled? And at that how do I know whos case to be on if the thread is gone? [/b]

Rob, I would think that would be a whole lot more work than simply deleting the offending posts.

I know what it takes to run an online forum and as annoying as this issue may be I don't think deleting whole threads is the way to go. Perhaps have more moderators who can simply delete the offending posts. This would ease Admins work load I'm sure.

Rob, you have always been more than fair, and certainly have put in the time to make the forum a success, and your hard work is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to explain things fully.

Jeff
jeff,

the mods and admin already know about the value of some threads - those will be protected.  the rest will more than likely get the axe.

it's not about having more mods.

cheers,
rob.

FYI- You can set your photobucket account to automatically size your pics when you download them. I did this once years ago and now I never have to do it again. I'm not a computer person and was able to do it.

I don't think a lot of folks realize you can set Photobucket (and other web hosts) to automatically resize your images when uploading.  That feature made all the difference for me.
