Sharpening Two Blade Broadheads

Just purchased 150 grain Tusker broadheads, like the tips but having a hard time getting a good edge on them.  Using a Grobet file and going by their recs on their site. Any advice, how long does it usually take on the file to get the edge so you can move on to the whetstone or leather strop?  Is the RediEdge from 3Rivers a good way to finish them after the filing process. Best way to sharpen them is the broadhead sharpener from KME.  You will never get a sharper broadhead any other way.


I have some Tuskers that Ron at KME sharpened and sent to Connie.  You don't want to be in a dark room with them because you come out bleeding everytime.  LOL

Ditto on the KME sharpener.  Although Ron has the broadhead sharpener system (and I own that too)... I just can't get the hang of it.  So, I use my knife sharpener system for my Stingers.  Love it!

I use a file to put on a burred edge. Then I hone the edges on a true angle sharpening stone. These stones are mounted on a block of wood at a 22 degree angle( I believe). After a few strokes you will have a razor sharpe broadhead.

Make life easy(er).  Buy the KME jig and be done.  Fast, Easy, and above all else...fool proof.  my BH's are so sharp your eyes will bleed if you look at them for to long.

Probably a KME in my future, but I file sharpen Rib-Tecs, Stos and Magnus IIs with files.

Shoot 3 blades now but when I used to shoot 2 blades (magnus 1 and STOS) I would take a black marker and color the edge.  After the black was gone from working with a file the file was put away and then just went to ceramic sticks.  I didn't hand file I used the two file jig that is on a block of wood at the preset angle.  I have not tried the KME that everyone is talking about but they look like a fool proof system.  With any BH I have never been able to get a true hair poppin paper cutting razor edge with anything other than the use of ceramic.  Let me take that statement back.  I did use one of the bench grinder systems with the card board wheel with jewler's pumice and could get a 2 blade head extremely sharp.  I have read for years about people getting shaving sharp head with just a file.  1 of 2 things.  They can do something that I cant or the heads are not truly shaving sharp.  One thing to remember with any head is that it takes time to get a head preped to your sharping style.  Once you have got the head shaving once then touch ups are quick.  I shoot Woodsman's now and from the package to ready to put in the quiver I will have an honest 30 minutes per head.  Touch ups to bring back after dulling from quiver removal and the occasional flesh wound is about a minute.
