I better understand the importance shooting a properly spined arrow.  I currently shoot a 52# Blacktail with my total arrow weight at 635 gr.  The shaft is cut at 29.5 inches, my draw is 28 inches.  I have some new beaman arrows with a 75 gr brass insert and a 220 gr broadhead still at full length.  I have been shooting a arrow too stiff after changing my bow weight and shooting style.

My question is probably stupid, but I have to ask.  If the insert is already glue in, do I cut the shaft from the nock end to get the length required?  My understanding is to bare shaft and cut a little at a time until you get proper results.  I have a arrow saw and also have a Bitzenburg.  So, doing myself is not an issue.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated, arrows are expensive.

If I haven't glued any fletching on, I will cut from the nock end.  If I have already glued fletching, I remove the insert and cut from that end.  And if I have glued an aluminum footing on, I cut from the nock end and sometimes have to refletch.  That's how I do it, YMMV.

I cut from the nock end.   Much easier and quicker then trying to remove the insert each time.

Not trying to hijack a thread, but this is on a side note.

I have two Blacktails. Both of my blacktails like a stiff arrow.

From talking with other Blacktail owners, many of them say their Blacktail recurves also like a stiff arrow.

Just food for though when dealing with a Blacktail recurve.
