who shoots a St Charles Thunderbird 2nd Gen
« on: October 31, 2011, 06:46:00 AM »
I want to change to wood arrows for this bow and I will be getting some made.  I have it bareshafted perfect with heritage 90's and 200gr points.

how do you think I should match the spine of woods,, lets say 125gr point because its easier adding point weight to lighten spine than it is to add spine.

my thunderbird is 48@28 uses a stock B-50 St Charles string, Hush silencers and I like a 28 1/2 to 29" BOP  arrow.  I'm thinking 50/55's (or) 53-54-55 spines.

I have the option of 2 arrow makers with one only doing 11/32 tapered arrows in 50/55 and the other can do 5/16 in 50/55 Both being around 525gr finished weight...

thanks T

I am guessing you have the dual shelf. I have the dual shelf and went to his sister Suzanne StCharles and she made me up some 45-50lb spined wooden arrows for my 45lb bow.
I love the way the bow shoots but since it is not cut anywhere near center it seems to like weaker spined arrows than I am used to.
You can try Suzanne at this link, she knows her brothers bows well.

I have 2 dual shelf T Birds and shoot them with skinny D10 strings. My 56# bow likes 70/75 woodies cut to 29 1/2 with 160 gn head.
The 53# bow likes 60/65. I was not a fan of the B50 strings that the bows came with.

sorry forgot to mention that,,, i went with the single shelf for a closer to ctr shot bow..  I was thinking 50-55 or 53/54/55 tapered arrows should work with 125gr points.

I forgot about Northwest archery,, I'll try calling them and see,,, jay still uses that endless type string too so they should know pretty good about spine vs poundage.

thanks T
