Rare winds and deer movement
« on: October 31, 2011, 11:19:00 AM »
Do you guys think that when odd winds are predominant in an area for a few days that will affect the deer movement?  Do they just lay up when the wind blows from a direction that it rarely does?  In western PA we have had a lot of east wind the last few days and have only seen 1 deer in 4 long sits in the stand - although he was a great one!  Big 8 pt at 5 yards and couldn't get the shot.

East winds are odd here so I have been hunting mostly from a climber where I can get the favor on the wind but nobody seems to be seeing many deer on these east wind days.

Thoughts?

Supposedly it effects fishing (at least on the East Coast & NE).

"Wind from the east - fishing is least.

Wind from the west - fishing is best."

May change the deer's patterns, but I'm not sure they hole up enirely.

I agree with Stumpkiller. They change to match conditions. It's just life as a deer, big deal.
