I wasn't gonna tell anyone this (pride thing) but I missed the buck of my life on Saturday morning. I was up about 15 feet and he was about 15 yards out. Stopped. BROADside. STANDING STILL!  :banghead:

He came in fast as I watched starting from 120 yards out. After getting my pounding heart under control and my hyperventilating breathing to somewhat normal, I proceeded to shoot just over his back. When I related the story to my 10 year old son, he asked "Dad, did you bend at the waist?" I just rolled my eyes and wiped away the tears.

Some years ago I missed a very nice 8 point that was 8 yards from the tree I was in.  I cussed and proceeded to throw my 60# Sky recurve as far a I could.  I climbed down, recovered my bow which was uninjured, and quickly came to the conclusion that I was over-bowed (I was) and how important it is to "aim" low when hunting from an elevated stand.  I've also learned to better control my temper.

at 12 yards from your tree and 30 feet up I would have probaly missed. That's a long way up. I like 12 -15 feet up.

Not bending at the waist cost me a 12 point Iowa buck 2 years back. Now when they come in I am thinking pick a spot and BEND:)

I have two pratice arrows in my quiver which I shoot at the end of each sit . The routine and memorie of these shots install a sence of confidence and confirmation of distances .
Interestingly this confidence will be carried over to your next tree stand  and further practice routines will result in a confident mode which will serve you well .
    Cheers

Well I missed a 8pt with a probably 5 inch droptine this evening at 15 yards  :(  its ok though because I have all next week off! Plus there are some studs on this farm so I'm not letting this miss get me down.

I usually shoot under from a tree stand. Missed a doe the other day at 20 yds from a 15' ladder stand.
Look at it this way, you've still got a chance to shoot at him again only next time he may be bigger!  :bigsmyl:
