Just got word that I am out of work until December 13th and I am looking for a spot to hunt in Ohio. Any pointers would be great. Thank you, Big Ed

Big Ed,
Id check out the thread from the Ohio tradition deer hunt. Go back a page or two and u'll find it. Ohio Power has 60k (or more) acres of public ground that is largely unutilized. You can camp and hunt there for free, just have to buy a liscense and deer tag and sign in when you get there. All the details and directions are on that thread. check it out.

You might also check out Grand River wildlife area, which is mighty close to the PA line. Astabula and Trumbull counties, I believe. ODNR web site will get you a map. Nice big swamp in the middle. Good deer if your willing to get away from the road. That's all I got for ya.

There are plenty of decent public areas around but the best is for sure AEP. Egypt valley was decent when I was goin there but I don't know about now. Check out the ODNR website. They have all the state managed public areas listed with o.k. maps and directions how to get there etc. Good luck man!

ODNR does not have all of the public land listed, there is plenty of small parcels throughout Ohio that offer public hunting that is not managed by the state. Check out city ordances many offer hunts available on land that they own or manage, also check out land owned by colleges, I just received permission to hunt 600 acres of land that is owned by a college, they let other people hunt there so I consider it public.

Ed,
You might give Zaleski State Forest a look. I was out there a month ago. I saw lots of deer.

Ed, what Ken didnt tell you is he only has 1.5 eyes. He would have seen lots more if he had 2 eyes
The group he went with all had chances at Zeleski, one guy shot a nice buck.
Good Luck

I agree with Zeleski. I'm heading there next week myself. I've never been disappointed with the amount of sign and deer that I've seen.

I've hunted Ohio power land and man I have seen some BIG deer taken. One 12 pointer comes to mind, it took 3 men to load it in the truck.
