Need some help with bamboo sahfts

Hi guys,

I have some very thin bamboo shafts, around 5/16", but very stiff 60#-65#. I need at least 145 grains glue on points to put them in tune, however I found maximum 125 grains. How to put more weight in the tips? Any advice?

You could try using 11/32 points for 145 gr and 160 gr.  Not too much size difference, except that with 11/32, it will not be flush against the shaft...you could try some silk thread wrapping right behind an 11/32 point to ease the transition.

You could also drill out the pithy center of the bamboo on the point end, and glue in a nail or some solder for extra weight.

I like Scattershot's idea, that's a good one. If you have to use an oversized head consider putting it on with a heavy bodied epoxy like PC-7. Use the epoxy to fair in the back end of the head so there isn't a big jump there.

I got my last 145 gr 5/16" field points from 3R's.

Why do you think you need 145 gr point though? You're dealing with natural materials where each individual shaft's foc weight (if any) can vary. Generally, you need to allow 10 extra pounds or so for it's natural taper. Dynamic spine of those 60-65# shafts could only be around 50-55#.

Just dril the point end out a bit and glue in a screw in point. Then wind the outside of the shaft with dental floss. Works for me perfectly.

I even manaed to drill some a bit wider and glue Hit Inserts in, now i can use screw in points and change em.

Use duplex nails.  They run about 160 grains uncut, just grind the first head off as a point and go shooting.  And you can grind the shaft length of the nail down to get the grains you want.
