gonna try somethin' new......
« on: November 06, 2011, 02:46:00 PM »
Had one pretty nice buck get downwind of me yesterday morning and moved to a new spot in the p.m. to stay ahead of the swirling wind. Got "treed" by two chocolate labs about prime time (another story for later!). The buck yesterday is the ONLY deer I have seen while on stand this season.

After being bayed up yesterday, I threw a little a ground blind together on the north side of the cut pasture, anticipating the heavy south wind today. I've got my decoy loaded in the truck and I'm heading out the door. I'll report back at dark thirty. Worst case scenario is a pleasant set in the woods!

Weellll, I had a 11 turkeys parade by me in shooting range, which leads me to believe my set up was good. Of course, our fall turkey season ended last Sunday so all I could do was watch. I did get to watch them fly up and if they continue to roost in this area I will be good to go come December when the season comes back in!
I set until end of legal shooting and as I was taking down my decoy I had a half a dozen does come trotting toward me. It was dark enough that I had my headlamp on but they didn't stop until I looked straight at 'em and shine d the headlamp in their eyes. If nothing else, I know that they're there!
Next day out will probably be Friday....may sit the ground in the a.m. and hit the trees in the p.m.

Stay with it and keep us posted. Sounds like you are in a good spot. What are your bow specs and what ground blind are you using? Best of luck to you.

tradshooter-I am shooting a 60" MOAB, 55#@28" and I draw 28". Shooting 400 trad only carbon tuned and weighted out to 635 gr. I was in a natural "brush blind" this evening and will most likely leave the pop up at home and continue with this blind. I have 5 treestands up on this property but the S, E/SE winds this weekend cut back my options. Gusts from the south today were in the upper 20 mph range.  Gun season starts Saturday and I will bowhunt right on thru. Haven't gun hunted in several years. Nothing agaist it, I love my guns, just enjoy the bow alot more. Mike
