If that's the biggest problem you have hunting then you aren't doing too bad   ;)

Here's my low budget idea I've been using for 44 years, an old wrapper from "Deer Me" tree steps with my parachute cord wrapped around it and a hook on the end. I can put it in my pocket and with the hook can raise or lower several items and retrieve items dropped from the tree. Last year I fished my glove up from the ground. The cord is exactly the correct length I want to be from the ground also so it's a measuring cord in effect.

I use one I got in the store, and one I made that is real similar.  Both are a kind of flat cord that is woven, soft to the touch, and real flexible.  One I keep in my pocket for when I pack in a stand or use a climber.  A second is attached to my pack and stuffed in a pocket.  I just wrap one around my hand and stuff in my pocket. The other I just put loose in my pack.  With very few exceptions, they don't tangle at all going from pocket to deployed.  I just shake it out and lay it on the ground very loose over maybe a 4 sq. ft. area near my gear.  I then use a second one linked if I need to pull up more stuff like a pack.  I think a lot depends on the type of cord you use.  I have a rope kept on all my hang on stands I keep set for the season.  I will have to give the figure 8 a try.  Could help with the one or two momentary tangles I get a season.

Just wrap it around a car wash sponge(8"x4") and when you get to the stand bend the sponge in half and take the line off.

There is a line we used to use for decoy line. It's called "Tangle Free Decoy Cord" and it's a plastic material and will not tangle no matter what you do to it.

I use accessory size climbing rope (4-6mm).  Very tangle free and the thicker rope is easier on my hand when pulling up, or lowering, heavier weight like my pack and bow.

I use a piece of 1" pvc about 4-5 " long, drill a hole [ near one end ] big enough for parachute cord to pass through it, pull about 6" of cord through it and knot it so 6" remains and put a clip on that end, wrap 20-25 ' of cord around pvc, and place clip on end, clip short cord to bow and other end to belt, cord will unwrap on way up the tree, pull up re-wrap ready for next time.
Seems like alot but very quick and simple.

I have the same problem.  Started using green parachute cord years ago, but it twists up like crazy.
