Hog arrow choices...

I'm putting together some new hog hunting arrows for an upcoming hunt and thought I'd get some feedback from you wisened old sages.

The bow is a 70" Hill Cheetah, marked 50@28. I'm pulling it to 30.5". My scale is way off, so I have no idea what it really pulls. I'm guessing around 57-60 at my draw. It has a B50 string on it, too.

I decided to use some wooden shafts on this hunt. I have a couple of choices on hand.

First up are some 65-70# surewoods and they shoot perfectly with a 130 grain single bevel Zwickey No Mercy. They weigh around 670 grains.

Next are some 74# Acme Cedars. They fly like darts with a 160 grain Stos and weigh around 570 grains.

Which would you choose?

I would go with the heavier shafts and the zwickey no mercy.

OK then discussion............the ACME are most likely 23/64 and way too fat for my liking. Static pressure increases with depth and penetration will suffer definitely go with the Surewoods! How's that?

They are fatter, the surewoods are 11/32s, BUT, the ACMEs have a much better FOC, and we all know how important that is. Besides, I've never noticed a difference in penetration between 23/64s and 11/32s on deer and hogs.

I'd go with the set that shoots the best percentage-wise. If one or the other seems to hit where you're looking more consistently than the other then go with that setup.

If they shoot the same then the heavier arrow.

They both shoot the same for me. They group right together out to 25 yards. After that, the surewoods start hitting a little lower.

One thing going in favor of the ACMEs, is that I have 2 dozen of them and am down to 6 of the Surewoods.

Oh, and sharpening these Zwickeys is a royal pain in the rearend. The edge that came on them is atrocious.

I've gotten to where I like my arrows a little under 10gpp...faster w/ a better trajectory and still good weight. I would probably use the 570's.

i'll bet it'll be over 60# at the least, at yer draw length.  as it is, it's probably 55# at 28"

I'd use these, but then again depending how big the hogs are you might run into I'd rather be shooting carbons.

There are a few really big hogs that are using the wallows we'll be hunting. Most we've seen and shot have been from 150-225 pounds, but last fall my buddy had a massive boar come in on him, but he couldn't get a shot at it. He said it had to be well over 300#. I trust his judgement, too. He's a published biologist and not prone to exaggerating.

Carbon-wise, I have some AD Trad Lights that shoot well out of it with a total weight of around 550. That's about as heavy as I can go with this bow and those arrows. I do have room to cut them down another inch, so I might be able to get the weight up to 570.

I also get good flight with some gt 5575s at around 600 grains (I think). I haven't spent much time fiddling with those shafts.

The AD Hammerheads I have are too stiff, unless I get stupid heavy with them. They fly well at a total of 880 grains, but man are they slow. My eye is attuned to a much flatter flight. I've also got some 7595s, but I'd need 400 grains up front on them for around 800 grains total. Those heavy arrows really rock a target.

Rob, you could be right about the weight. It does, however, feel a lot lighter than other 55@28 bows I've got. Of course, the others are shorter r/d bows and have a totally different feel to them.

I'll probably end up using the Surewoods. They are just such a tough shaft.
