I'm from Louisiana so I'm not that used to northern deer, but I'd also give him 3 1/2 years.  His back is still flat, still has some "length" in his neck/head/shoulder ratio and his face doesn't quite make that wide and short nose of older deer.  Anyway, that's what I see.

Very accurate statement.  One of the MS deer biologist stated Tuesday night that even a jaw will only give you 90% accuracy - and that's out to around two years or so.  After that the accuracy falls off dramatically and there's only good guessing.  He also showed many pictures of tagged deer (known age) that did not correspond at all with the models we've come to accept as far as aging a buck based on antler and body formation.  In other words, I saw 2.5 y/o's that looked like 4.5 and vice versa.  They are nearing conclusion of a study now that proves (at least here) there is much more diversity at all ages than previously thought.

Very nice deer at any age and I congratulate you on a fine trophy!
