Viper Deluxe fps,ke,momentum UPDATED
« on: July 13, 2007, 04:51:00 PM »
Well I did some playing with my chrony today. I got in my 5gpi tubes and 100gr inserts. My Heritage 150's didn't come in so I used a 30" 340 beman classic, (I know to stiff just playing) My bow is a Viper Deluxe 55@28 but puls closer to 57# and that is my draw to. Factory dacron sting with wooly whispers on it, one brass nock point. Brace heigth 6 1/2" (should be more but I can't twist the factory string any more)

So here's the arrow setup;

Beman 340 30", 100gr brass insert, 150 field point, 3 5" feathers

Total w/o weight tube 578gr,154fps,30ke,.394mn
w/tube 708gr,144fps,33ke,.452mn

Them numbers arn't bad I don't think for a $150 bow. I will do it again when I get my CE arrows and my FF string from  Chad. If I can pick up 5-10fps by changeing the string that would be great. I used the Jackson archery ballstic to do these.
Forgot to add, w/tube foc is 14% and w/o it is 17% I figured that my foc would have been higher.

I scaled my bow again because I have my string twist as far as I can get it, My brace heith is 6.5" the bow is supposed to be around 8" Anyways I know my scale is right, but when I checked the DW it is up to 62@28" the bow is marked 55#@28 wouldn't it gain more weight is I took the BH to 8" Brace is from the back of the grip to the string right? That is how I have measured it for 20yrs on compounds, I was just asking because if  I measure from the front of the shelf it is 8" just wondering if traditional measures deffernt then compounds.

brace is from the deepest part of the grip to the string. the back of the bow is the far side of the shelf farthest from the bow, the part of the bow facing you the shooter is calkled the belly. you should be measuring from the belly side to the string. i bet the factory string is 18 to 20 strands, that is a rope. if ya go to an 8-10 strand 450+ with a built of serving and loops ya will get at least 10-12fps. more. i alsp should say the brace is pobably close for that bow, maybe 7"s tops. Shawn, I have a D97 12strand ordered from Chad. I know what the belly and the back of the bow are, I was just wondering why with so low of brace that it was pulling so much harder then marked, I guess thats why the bows re only $150-$200 LOL You get what you pay for. But for a first time longbow its not bad. I figuered with the D97 I would pick up some speed, your right the factory string is a rope. I hope those Heritage 150's are still going to be stiff enough for 60# 150gr tip 100gr insert, but I can cut them down to 28.5" if need be.

Well I got my string in from Chad today, and all I have to say is holy sh!* It took alot of the shock and noise out of the bow, picked up 10+fps over the factory string. Now I need to start cutting my arrows down to get them setup right. And with the new string I got my BH back to over 7" but after shooting this afternoon I need to twist it to bring the BH back up. When I start grouping inside a butter bowl at 20yrds I will let you know. LOL
