Tippit's Tree Stand Safety System

I really like the looks of that system.  The only downside I can see in my situation is when I have other people hunting my property.  I'm not sure I would want to supply them all with GriGri's and train them on their use.  It does seem like something that takes some practice.  In order for them to use the prusik knot system the rope would need to be tied off on the bottom.  And I can see where you wouldn't want that with the GriGri.  I guess if I just got into the habit of untying and retying the bottom of the static line each time I could make it work for both systems.
Great info!  One way or another, I can sure see myself getting one of these.

This system looks great.  I will be purchasing some rope, grigri, carabiner and back up rope for prussiks.  I did have a concern about critters fraying the rope and started a new thread.

I really like Jeffs idea on the GriGri 2 and have acquired the setup. Since I use a climber, I wanted to get away from having to always pull the complete rope through the loop every time after putting it around the tree, I tied a locking Carabiner to the end of my rope and simply clip it around the rope.

How do you attach it to your harness?  Make sure you try it hanging from a couple of feet off the ground so you know you can reach the cam lever to allow yourself to be descended down the tree.  The more you use it the more comfortable you'll become with it.  

I find that I attach my harness to my life line at the base of the tree and then but my harness on because the GriGri is right behind my neck.  When I come down, I just pull all the rope out so I'm free of the GriGri at the bottom.

Jeff, my harness has a short endless strap attached between my shoulder blades. It will reach  almost to the top of my head. I attach it to the GriGri with another caribiner. It is attached before putting the harness on. I usually put the harness on before leaving the house and put the last layer of clothes on over it. I "chain link" the rope and put it in a bag hanging from my belt until I'm ready to climb.

Last winter I started using this harness instead of the full body system.


 


With Tippits belay system recommendation.

 

The belay is attached with a caribiner to the harness. The attachment point is in front rather than rear making access to it much easier..

That harness looks just like the 20feetup one. How much did you pay for it?

Jeff, I can't remember exactly what it cost but was around $40. I ordered it from a mountain climbing equipment seller on the internet.

Regarding safety systems... only use dynamic ropes!
It stretches just a bit to ease the impact off the fall.

BTW.

I'm a professional rock climber.
I have utter confidence in the Gri-Gri. Forces generated in rock climbing are MUCH greater than any you could whip up in  tree hunt situation. I have taked 40 ft falls recently on a gri-gri worked just fine... I routinly whip around 50 ft off the ground with a single dynamic line and gri-gri.
