arrow selection
« on: November 13, 2011, 04:36:00 PM »
I am getting a 45lb Savannah..my draw is 28"  I am trying to figure where to start with spine. 1916`s looks like it would be about right.. It seems I am restricted to aluminums to get a heavy enough hunting arrow. Looking for somewhere between 450-500grs. The only carbon that I see that is close to being heavy enough is the FMJ`s.  I figure I will be shooting a 125gr broadhead..so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Richard you can get wood in that hunting weight also. It's just a matter of (I know you hate this part but) personal preference.

I would not recommend having a target arrow weight.  The flight of the arrow will be much more important.  Take a look at an arrow test kit.  They have them for carbon wood and aluminum.  Get one of those and a field point test kit.  If you find an 1816 works with the 125, you can always go to the 1916 or 2016 and increase the point weight or arrow length.  I have always found it helpful to just say more weight or less weight.  That way you end up with an arrow that flies true.  Good arrow flight will do more for penetration than an extra 50 grains will.
