Homage to the Bear Alaskan

This spring for our annual turkey hunt my buddy brought along 4 bows that had been in a neighbors attic for many years. His neighbor apparently used to hunt, doesn't anymore and no longer had use of the old bows so he passed them on. My buddy shoots a compound and had no idea what he had in his hands. three are old bears one of which is an alaskan with a dual shelf and is marked 48# at 28. I decided that since deer archery season just ended here in PA it wouldn't hurt me to play with one of these older bows. I twisted up a flemish out of B50 and strung her up. My hunting boe is a recurve and draws 47@28 so I grabbed the carbons I have made up for that and let one fly.
I just about hit the 10 ring. I promptly shot a 3 shot group within 2 inches at about 15 yards. I REALLY like the feel of this bow. It just plain feels good and is extremely quiet. I even went so far as to pull out some bareshafts and broadhead tipped arrows and all are grouping well at 25.
Geez I dont know why I waited so long to string this one up. I've been shooting it for 3 days now and i feel confident enough to hunt with it. I'm shooting different distances and stances through my practice brush holes and I'm drilling with it.
I think I have a new go to bow. And to think it just sat in some guys attic for years and years let alone in my shed for almost 6 months.
Ahh the mystical flight of the arrow and the feeling of a new found partner.
Nice.

I agree, one of my all time favorite glass bows! Love the mid fifties vintage model with the black glass back and orange belly - Halloween bow to some. Slight string follow shape with flat stable limbs, a real tack driver.

Gotta agree on this one. I found a forlorn looking one on the trade blanket at Denton. Ugly as sin but hammers woodies with authority! I'm gonna give her a face lift this winter.
Mine's also Orange and Black! Our school colors!

I have one still in the box from 1960. Great looking bow.

Orange and black. That's the one. I definitely want to make up some woodies for it and see how they fly. It just feels like I should shoot wood out of it.
