Dan Toelke bow question?
« on: November 20, 2011, 04:43:00 PM »
For those who own or have owned a Montana bow by Dan. Does his bow come with a string or a sock? I only ask because I am receiving one next week, the D-bow. I did not see them on his site as a option and I didn't see anything about what is included with the bow. I could not contact him this morning and just wanted to ask here for a possible quick answer. It is not a big deal I just want to know if I need to get one and if I need a dacron or fastflight string. Thanks

Oh yes, he gives you the best leather bow sock, and he usually gives you two strings. You won't get a better deal than a Toelke when it comes to that.

As LongStick answered. You will get a bow sock and at least one string. Dan usually has a fast flight string on his longbows and a B-50 string with his recurves.
You'll love your new bow. Be sure and post pics when you can.
Enjoy.

His wife Amy makes the bow sock. It's kinda like Naugahyde upholstery material. Protects the bow well. Jared makes the strings (plus he has become a hell of a bowyer in his own right as well). Dan likes B-50 for his recurves but they are FF compatible so no worries there.

You will receive with your Super D in a bow sock with two 8125 strings with "cat whiskers". I have cut mine down to about 1/3 their original diameter and they are still the quietest bows I have shot or heard shot.

One thing to notice that Dan uses an endless loop string in Fast Flight and not a flemish twist.  He explained to me that in Montana where it is very cold the endless loop string will not move during the draw and some flemish strings will creep at the wrong moment and "click" in the string groove.  He said you can use either (endless loop or flemish) but he sends all of his bows out with endless loop.

Best of luck.  I know you are going to love his bow.  I sure do.
