Educate me on the ILF Risers and Limbs

ILF International Limbs Risers. Correct this if wrong? I have not paid any attention to the ILF and been shooting Hybrid longbows, but I would like to learn so please show some photos and tell the riser length and limb length and how long the bow will be. Also how many pounds the bow can be set from and to? Also what do you have to do when you put new limbs on a riser? Thanks, Ken Denton

Ken, I'd advise going to different websites of ILF manufacturers to learn what risers are made and limbs that fit them to give a certain length and poundage at that length.

Not a complete list but go to Hoyt, lanc archery, Morrison, Border websites.

Jim Belcher of Sky Archery use to have some great ILF information. I think it explained riser and limb length combos and how it affected overall bow length and how much weight variance to expect. Might have been in his flier though. I've shot his and Bill Dunn's and they both shot great.

ILF is all I shoot anymore. If you have a specific question lets hear it.
1. Greater selection of limbs in price and quality.
2. Tuning is almost unlimited.
3. Poundage adjustments and tiller adjustments unlimited.
4. Or you can just string it and shoot it like any other bow.

I'm asking this question of Wingnut, John Harvard and a few other  builders as well, is an ILF riser such as you build suitable for both ilf longbow limbs or recurve limbs?  I'm talking about the geometry of the riser, the angle the different limbs would be attached at.  I'm pretty sure I understand that any ILF limb could be attached to the riser but would performance be better if ILF longbow limbs were attached to a riser particular for longbow design and vice versa for ILF recurve set ups or does it simply not matter?  thanks

I want to see some photos of the bow strung, showing full length?
When you work the tiller do you hsve about 1/4" lower limb than upper limb, like a longbow for split fingers or what?
With the screw adjustment. how stable is the riser? Thanks, Ken

You have a lot of choices here in the USA. Just off hand: Dryad, Black Swan, Sky, Zipper, Morrison and I know I had to miss a lest one. And anyone of them will work fine with longbow or recurve. I know the performance is there on both, our longbow are 1-2 fps slower than our recurve, which I tested this week end and recurve 9 GPP 197.2 fps at 28" longbow at 195fps is not to shabby. And all mentioned above will be in that area.

Tiller is what you set it at, roughly 3/16 Split or 0 for 3 under,,,, You set it. The riser is very similar to our Cheyenne and just as stable.

I've been shooting ILF stuff for about a year and a half now.I cant really add anything to what Bob has said.But ILF risers are availabe from 27" to 13".And limbs come in three standard lengths 23" shorts 24"mediums and 25" longs.Morrison offers a 22" extra short limb as well as 26" extra long and 27" extra extra long limbs.Dryad also offers the xl and xxl limbs.Alot of guys get hung up on the adjustability of ILF. In my opinion if you can fletch an arrow or sharpen a broadhead you can set up and tune a ILF bow.It just gives you the ability to make a bow fit you instead of the other way around.

I have had 2 Morrison's and now have a Zipper riser. The bows don't really look any different that a standard bow. I use recurve and longbow limbs on the same riser. My riser is 17" and I'm using short 40# recurve limbs that make a 58" bow, it's scale 43-48# @ 28". Right now I have 3 sets of limbs and I am real happy with the whole ILF system!

I have also settled on the ILF setup's. My reason is you can customize the bow anyway you like. # up or down 2-3# either way. Length bow change with limbs short to xl. Recurve or longbow. Grips can be changed on the riser from high to extra low. Risers made of wood or my preference metal. I like metal because mine has all the AMO tapped holes. I can shoot off the shelf or with a plunger flipper setup. Bow quiver any standard AMO bolt (screw-on) out there will most likely fit. I could even put bow sights on ( I choose not to).Ability to change tiller to exactly fit my style of shooting. I suppose the list goes on!
