New to me RER T/D
« on: July 15, 2007, 01:02:00 AM »
Just traded for this RER. 62" 49@ 28  Bacote riser W/Osages Stripes. Limbs are Bacote W/Osage cores. Shoots like a dream. Bare shaft tested and @ 29" Draw the GT 55/75 (Tested spine of .400) 100gr insert and a 125gr point @ 30" teseted perfect.  Tried a 35/55 GT and a Axis 500 both cut to 29.5 with stock insert &125gr point. the GT tested weak. 5" right @ 15yards and the Axis (true spine of .450)was 2" right. I teseted a bunch of different shaft set-ups and this is what worked best. Again with the use of CUPCAKES spine tester all shafts were tested for true spine. Twisted up a new string, 18st of the first FF material (I still have 3 spools left) shoots Whisper quite w/ no whiskers. More testing to follow....

Thanks for letting me share.  Kid in a candy store.....Mark

Sweet bows aren't they? I am surprised though that shaft is not way too stiff, even with that much weight. I shoot a 52#er and I shoot a heritage 150 cut to 29.5 inches and 175 grains up front. I draw 28.5 inches, so bow is around 54 #s at my draw. It is an Arroyo, but I was told by Kevin they perform about te same. Congrats on one of the best bows out there right now!!! Shawn

By the way get yourself a ten or 12 strand 450+ or D97 string. Shawn

Shawn I was also very surprised with the results of the bare shaft test. I have always shot heavier spine than most... I love testing and doing the set-up. Reminds me of when I work in a archery shop (9yrs). So Details man.... what's up with the 450 & D97?  Give me the tech stuff.... I could of got by with the .500 spine shafts but need and arrow @ 30" which would made them weaker.......I take it your up late, hard to sleep while your healing.... Hope all goes well with that.  I like you get alot of spine question out here on the west coast....Mark

Mark, I have just foundthose two string types to be very quiet and if ya build up the serving a tad on the 10 or 12 strand string, it will fit those nocks perfect. I know a lot of guys shooting 8 strand 450+ out of those RER bows just build up the loops as well. Yup, i am hurting and cannot sleep, Thanks for your concern!! Shawn

Congrats Mark! Very nice. Are you going to break down and leave the longbow at home for the next 3D shoot?

Dang.. That Bocote bow looks just like the one I have on the rack. Right down to the oasge cores. I'll have to tell kevin he made twins when I see him today LOL. RERbows are sweet and really nice to shoot and look at. Shawn hang in there and heal quick. Congrats Mark an a nice curve.<><

Desert Dude! Put yourself an 8 strand 450+ string on that bow with the loops padded to about 14 and she'll really shine. All of mine have either a 6 or an 8 strand string on them.

Those RER bows are great, take LeRoy's advice about the strings.  Congats on the bow.
