Elk hunting in the missouri river breaks
« on: November 25, 2011, 04:50:00 PM »
Just wondering if any other Tradgangers hunt the breaks other then me? I have hunted a few different areas for the last 12 years but last year I seen two trad hunters threw my spotter. In all the years of hunting elk there I have only seen 3 trad hunters. Of corse I try to hunt where others dont.

I was there this year Gary. Week of Sept 19th.
With temps in the upper 80's, it was plenty warm, but had a great time.
Born and raised in MT and first time to hunt the Breaks.
Where in MT do you live?

I hunted in the breaks for the first and last time in the fall of 2000.  I had moved to Lewistown that year and wanted to check out what everyone else was talking about.  It wasn't for me.  I much prefer hunting elk in the mountains wether it is the Snowies, the Continental divide by Butte, or the North end of the Big Hole.  I like to hunt where the trees are thick enough that I won't see them until they are close enough to shoot, then you just have to be able to find a hole to shoot through!    That is where I have had my problems.  Getting so excited I forgot to pick a spot and shooting over their back at less than 20 yards is also hard to swallow   :banghead:  Someday I will get it all put together.  Joseph

I have hunted it twice! Not your typical elk hunt! Did miss a bull there my first time out!
