I have a 50# @ 28" Quinn Stallion and I draw 30".  What is a good aluminum shaft and point weight combo?  Hunting deer.

using Stu's calculator a 31" 2317 with 200 up front and 3-5"feathers should give give you good speed(169) and plenty of thump (631 gr 14.4 foc, 40ft/lbs) with a B50 string. If you use a good sharp head that should go through a deer like a frieght train.

Again Stu"s has people overspined! I would agree with the 2018 with 125 grain head. The 2317 even full length with 200 grains would be stiff. Shawn

The stallion is designed to use a D-97 string, what David Quinn made for them all. I dont use alum., use carbons, Gt 35/55, cut and inch past your draw, 4-5" feathers, 3 fletch and 150-`75 grain will get you to about 500 grains, and shoot like a drop of water. This combo out of several of my Quinns have been very good to me, taken a lot of game with them. Pm if I can help further.

Thanks for all the reply's...I have some 2117 full length shafts and kinda leaning towards those since I won't have to buy new shafts.  I can cut them about 30 3/4" with 100 grains up front according to Stu's and that will give me 500 grain shaft and almost 40 lbs energy.

As a side note, when I got this bow it was set up for shooting off the shelf, which, by the way, I have never done...so I decided I would try it even though the side plate was missing but still had a rug rest on the shelf.  Wow!  It stacks them in there just as good as with one of my NAP Flipper rests!  My question is, what should I used to build out the side plate with?
