Gene Wensel's "Buckskin & Bone"
« on: December 01, 2011, 08:15:00 PM »
I'm the kind of busy guy (like a lot of the rest of you) who doesn't have the time to dedicate to learning to hunt whitetails purely by experience.  I have no one around to mentor off of, either.

"Buckskin and Bone" has really encouraged me to keep at it, and is full of great tips.  I really know very little about the Wensels, so this is not a 'fan' report.

The book is written in an easy-to-read style, too.  I would recommend it to those who would be interested in piggy-backing on Gene's experience and deer savvy.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

So you've discovered the Wesnsels.  Yeah, they've been around a while, and they know a bit about deer hunting.    :bigsmyl:

I read Come November by Gene every year.  There is more whitetail information in that book then my limited brain can retain.  I learn something new and am reminded of many little things each time I read it.  Rogers first book gets read most years too.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Like Walt above I start reading Come November and Treestand Strategies in august every year. Now that I added Once upon a Tine and Buckskin & Bone to my collection i will read them every year also.

I've read "One Mans Whitetail" so many times that if you were to read the first few words of a sentence out of it to me, I could finish the rest of the sentence word for word!  Good stuff.
