Guido's Web -- Need Advice

Purchased a Web and used it quite a bit earlier this year.  Everything I read about it make it sound easier and more versatile than traditional stands (loc-on / climber).  

There are many things I love about the stand (very comfortable and safe) but to me it seems to limit my shot radius instead of improve it.  I did kill a deer in October using it.  The deer hung around off and on for a long time (young deer) and I even overshot it once before it came back in later and made the killing shot.  The overshot was mainly caused by worrying about maintaining my postion in the Web instead of focusing on shot.  It was very tiring trying to hold myself in different positions as I watched/waited on the deer to offer shots.  I would not have had this difficulty out of my loc-on or climber.

I am fairly young, very active and in good shape so the difficulty in utilizing different positions with the stand is not due to any physial limitations.

I read all the old posts and even PMed JoeBuck before I purchased but it still does not seem to be as versatile as everyone has indicated.

What am I missing??????    :confused:

hey Greg congrats on the deer. looks like I am under the knife!  one thing that helps me is I always point my left shoulder to the deer when I see it approaching. If not I immediately slide my tether around tree to do this or do the foot work. also it helps me what I call a grab step to screw an extra step in the tree over my tether belt on left or right side. I use this step to grab with one hand to move around tree if needed be.

one thing to remember about Guido web is that it is 360degrees as you know.. The minute I see a deer approaching I am thinking where I need to be on the tree when he gets to 20 yards.  My favorite shoot position is 10 oc lock to 5 o'clock .  I do not have to move my feet on this shot... But let's say he will not end up in that zone? Then I move my feet around the tree where I have a 10 to 5 position. So in short , I kill most my deer from the 10 to 5 position no matter the angle of approach from the deer because I move there.

I guess my last advice is not to rush the shot...nothing beats practice either from1 foot off the ground....I use to panic at a right sided tree trunk shot...now I just slip around to the left of the tree 2 steps and he is in my 10 to 5 zone. Again install a grab bar or two above your head 180 degrees apart.. I hang my fany pack on one.

Just hope to figure out why the GW just does not seem quite as ideal to me as it does to you and the many other fans of sling type stands on TG.  Not sure if I am doing something wrong; maybe it is just not the stand for me or maybe I just need more time with it?

WHEEWWW!  Thought I was in trouble........one thing I do when I set up in my Guidos that THEY do not suggest is I slip my left shoulder strap off when I shoot. I keep my right shoulder strap loose.  my leg straps keep the stand attached to me and the Web straps cross so there is no way to fall through the web.
so try that trick is slip off your left strap before you shoot. my shot example would be....spot the deer, move left shoulder to point at deer either by moving feet or tether or both, stand up, slip off left strap, grab bow off bow hanger, preset my bow arm and rest on strap.

***Joebuck, or any other experienced GW users feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about ANY of the following info.***

I've been researching the GW a lot. There is what folks call a bridge, that is supposed to greatly improve maneuverability in the GW.

In the origional setup you have two contact points, as seen in the first pic. The next pic is of the bridge. What this does, if I understand it correctly, create one contact point. This supposedly increases the maneuverability of the GW.

This is a ***SAFE*** mod that a lot of guys are using. I have a wealth of info that I can share with you, but I will need you to PM me as I can't post it here.

I'm interested to see if I experience the same physical issues that you mentioned, when I get mine. Of course I'm bout on my last leg, & weak as a wet kitten in a rain storm. Anyway, hope this helps, & congrats on your kill.

good morning!  Dave that's good research!  What a bridge is simply a modification of the Guido Web to hook to the tree like a Trophyline Tree Saddle. very popular with Trophyline Crossover guys to Guidos. This allows some added lateral movement. Very neat and safe hook up providing one uses quality ropes,carbiners and knots. personally I do not use it since I like the Guido 2" tether strap when I climb and use my screw in steps. Plus the bridge puts the hunter away from the tree in a more increased angle depending on length of bridge strap.Guidos hook up Shot angle is about 70to 85degrees with 90 degree being vertical. A 4 foot  bridge strap puts you less than 70 degrees..Basically the bridge allows 2' slack plus to rotate hunters trunk right and left. however for me , I never practiced enough to use to the new torso shot angle but it is a very Interesting and smart Tweak to the Guido Web and a lot guys Love it.
this may be exactly what Greg could try to get more lateral movement.

Bridge looks interesting.  Sending you a PM Dave for further information.  Hopefully this will be the key to unlocking the Web for me.  Going to give it a try and see how it works.
