Could someone do me a favor - measure a recurve?
« on: December 10, 2011, 09:57:00 PM »
For someone who owns a 62" recurve, can you measure in a straight line from tip to tip(when strung) and let me know the measurment?

Thanks so much!

My Wing Thunderbird is 58". I can measure some others, but they aren't strung right now. That should be pretty constant though as the string should be around 58" also.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Sounds pretty consistant.

Thanks Fellaa

Interesting how much length a recurve looses when strung....more than the average R/D longbow.

Appreciate it.

I have a thing for short bows but when you boil it down to inches, a 62" recurve when braced is not much different in overall length than a 58-60" longbow braced.

Thanks again

Actually, if you measure a 62" AMO recurve it is going to be about 4" less than 62" unstrung. The AMO measurement is taken following the curve of the limbs. For Example a 60" AMO Bear Kodiak is 56.5" unstrung.

This might help others who have longer recurves than 62". From tip to tip and I don't mean from the string grooves.

My 66" Blacktail "recurves" when fully strung are 63" in length.
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 42# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 10.02
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 37# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 11.37

You are right Jack...I should have thought about that as a string ordered for a recurve is typically 4" shorter that AMO.

Thanks everyone!

The only difference you will find is the deep hook limbs like ours and a few others will have a shorter overall length then most.
