Deer season is about to close but........
« on: December 13, 2011, 09:23:00 PM »
It is now time for my favorite season!  Stumping with the kids! We typically hit it hard from Jan. until April or so. Going out almost every day. I really look forward to this every year. I may not always have a good year in the stand but when it comes to the kids and some stumps, I absolutely love it. Time with them in the woods = Priceless!

Yeah, I know season has about a month or so. Work just is not allowing me enough time to get out.  I have thought about it but I hate only sitting in the stand for a hour or so.

I like to stump shoot for 2 reasons, great practice and fun....also I can see stumps...I can't see any deer!   :biglaugh:   The stumps never seem to be at a low number.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

I'm lucky, in France deer and boar are open till the end of Febuary, then we can shoot pests....foxes,coypu etc till deer open again in mid June, so we can hunt all year if your motivated enough!!

It is stump shooting time here as well.  One of my favorite things to do.  Going to have to try to get my buddy to shoot his Shrew more this winter.  Maybe he will try hunting with it next year.  Enjoy the time with your kids.  I don't think there is a much better activity for a family to do in the outdoors.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Bow season opens up again Dec 19 until January 10 in Iowa.  I can barely contain my excitement to get back into the stand.  I was getting close on a group of does before season closed to the gun hunters. Hopefully they didn't chase those out.

Stumping helps to hone my accuracy. It's great to get out there with friends and kill some wood.

After deer season I want to break some arrows chasing bushytails. That squirrel thread has motivated me.

the stumps have beat me twice this year.  i had a buck walk a trail just ourside of my range(like they usually do) so befor i got out of my stand i desided to take a shot a small stump he walked by with my hexhead. nailed it!  whent to get my arrow and that carbon didn't have a collar on it and the stump was fatlighter aka rock = busted shaft  :knothead:
today during lunch i took a shot a stump just just in the woods of my back yard.  woodsman head meets fatlighter.... woodsman went in about half was but took a right turn during the trip.  :banghead:    :banghead:
i'm going to stick with leaves and dirt!

Deer season is ending, but after the deer season is over, there are other pursuits I like to do with my recurves. Roving and if not roving, then hog hunting.
