How long is a cannister and pad good for?
I also heard there are cheaper refill kits out there?

Thanks,
Paul

It depends on how long or often us use it.

cannister lasts about 6 hours..give or take. Pads about 3 to 4 hours depending on the heat generated by your unit.

I can usually get a morning or evening hunt out of a pad...and two hunts out of the cannister.

You can buy the stuff wholesale on auction sites or you can get the gas cartridges at Wal Mart in the hair dryer section...they're marked ConAir and are for cordless hair dryers. They're a little bit cheaper.

Paul,

The cheapest is if you can find a multi pack.  Think it had 3 canisters and 12 pads.  I'd like to find some cheap canisters.  My pads work pretty well at a bout 2 per canister.

I am getting about 6 hours out of a canister and about 3 hours out of a pad.  dino

They are very effective. I've taken several deer while using it. I've not seen deer spook because of it.

As for effective I can tell you they work very well, about deer smelling them I am not sure.  Probably, but I figure if they smell the thermocell then they are going to smell me.  I killed a bear using one, but he is not a good example, he came in down wind, smelled me, woofed a few times and said what the heck, that was the last thing the bear said.

The cannisters are the same ones used in cordless curling irons, check Wal Mart as they are a little cheaper.

Thanks all.
I found a site (googled thermacell) that had refurbished units for sale a little cheaper, around $19.

I find the cannisters last closer to 10 hours. The pads 3 or 4 hours. I haven't hunted with it yet, but it sure was effective when sitting in a mosquito infested yard at my cabin a few weeks ago.
