I've been hunting from the ground since 1995 after a heart valve replacement. Doctor said a fall could disloge the valve. It works for me and I realy enjoy it. Just keep the wind in your face.
I try not to let my mind wander...It is too small and fragile to be out by itself.

I like ground hunting because it's more comfortable to sleep there. If I start to doze off I have somehow developed this defense mechanism where the last song I heard plays deafeningly loud in my head and wakes me up. I do not rely upon this anymore as the fall is quite far and broadheads are sharp.

I haven't been in a tree even one time this year, but I have also missed three deer with my recurve. Maybe I should rethink? Naw! I like being adaptable to conditions and mobile. I also have mostly traded in the  camo for green/black plaid wool patterns.

I don't mind being on the ground if I have a good spot for it and can see more than 50 yards around me.  For visibility being in a tree is just hard to beat.  I do have several spots that don't have opportunities to be in a treestand, so I'll either brush myself in or take a pop up and brush that in.  I've shot several deer off the ground with a bow, it's just a little harder to remain unseen when drawing back.

I like to sit a stand to see where the deer are moving and then go to the ground to get them. Atleast that's been my tactics lately and I'm getting closer to a kill.

all action this year was from the ground-treestand sightings were few & out of range or in a spot without a chance for a shot

I'm planning some on the ground spots for this coming season. Just found a small Hemlock thicket 12 yards out from a trail intersection this afternoon.
Plan to block some side trails to keep the movement out there. There's a faint trail 2 yards from the thicket and THAT would be too close!

I was a tree hunter for years, my climber was stolen about 5 years ago in mid season. I wound up killing a beautiful 7pt from the ground that season, I saw him twice from my stand before it was stolen. Ive taken 3 bucks from the ground since then, I will never hunt from a tree again its much more rewarding for me at eye level.
