I need some wood arrow help
« on: December 18, 2011, 09:56:00 AM »
I have a Mohawk on order. Specs are. 47#@28. My draw is about 27.5. I have always shot aluminums.
I really like the surewood shafts at braveheart archery. I know I could get the test kit but then Im left with arrows left over that I don't need. I would like to use 145g or 160g head. What do you think any opinions please.

Yup. About 50-55 spine.
In aluminums I would suggest a 2013 o a 2016 at your draw.

The test kit is a tool you will use the rest of your life as you buy / trade bows. A great investment and little cost in the long run compared to guessing spine and possibly getting stuck with a dozen arrows too short or wrong spine for you. Buy the test kit and help your friends dial their setups in too. JMHO

Thanks NoCams. That sounds like the way to go. I will do that. What do you think about 160g Woodsman elite. I'm torn between them and 160g Mangus. Or at 145g Eclipce head or 150g woodsmans.
Killdeer. Hows the mail. I know I'm ready for next week to be over. Merry Christmas and thank you.

Test kit

I got my shafts for Surewood shafts PDQ.  Here they are tapered, dipped, nocked, crowned and ready for feathers.

I crested each spine a different color so I could tell them apart easily.

You won't regret the investment in a test pack.  To me it is one of the best investments an archer can make.  Formulas can get you close on arrow spine, but there are enuf variables involved that often times it is just an estimate.  The test arrows and a tuning process will put you spot on.  I recommend finding someone with a good spine meter to spine each shaft and write the actual spine on each shaft so you cn see just what spine works best.

Enjoy the journey!

You are probably going to fall in the 55 pound spine range, but that is just a wild-eyed guess based upon my experience and shooting style. I second the recommendation to purchase a spine test kit.

Regarding broad heads, you will certainly enjoy the Woodsman Elite heads. I strongly recommend them.

Finished arrows.  Perfect idea w a test pak.  Of the 4 bows I've tried them on so far, I am using 3 of the different spines.
