Dimondback: The open sides create the cavity from which you draw the arrow. You lift slightly on the shaft near the point and let gravity do the rest. The flaps give it rigidity. This style of quiver require very little room to draw and arrow and even less arm movement. I love it for tight places, particularly on the ground. It's also great for 3D shoots a stump shooting. Sorry I don't have a picture handy of one in use, as that would explain it much better.
