Couple of new to me gems you don't hear much about...

I've recently picked a couple of very nice bows that don't get a whole lot of attention on here.  One is a Tom Parsons Kim Sha Mattawoman and the other is a Fred Anderson Skookum.  I know there alot of great bowyers out there and I have tried several other good ones, but these are both very special.  I've been shooting the Mattawoman for close to a month now and I like it better each time I take it out.  The Skookum just came today, could be new bow syndrome but I've never felt a bow that was as crisp and quiet on release as it. If you have any pictures of Tom or Fred's bows feel free to post them here, I would love to see more of their work.  If my wife wouldn't kill me, I would buy the two Andersons Ted at Raptor has in a heartbeat.

New guys to trad longbows may not be familiar with Fred Anderson's work, but guys who have been around for a while certainly are--one of the premier bowyers.  Unfortunately for the longbow bunch Fred has been out of the business for a while now.  I have two of his bows and won't be letting them go. If you can find one, jump on it--they are classics. Both Fred and Tom Parsons are some of the very best bow makers there are.

The Parsons Mattawoman(bow on left) is 66" all grey action wood.  Marked "about 55lbs" by Tom, sold to me second hand as 50@28.  Great shooter, really likes 60-65 tapered chundoo at 29" with 160gr point or 55-60 chundoo with 125 same length.

The Skookum is 66" 58@28, have only shot a couple of days but highly impressed so far.  Sends 575gr woodies downrange with authority, but what is really impressive is how quiet this bow is.  I thought the Mattawoman was quiet(have no silencers on it,is very quiet) but the Skookum takes the cake. I have no idea on the woods used in the Skookum, I'm going to take more pics when I get a good day with sun so you guys can see his work in better detail.  Maybe some of you guys can help me identify the woods used.

Honestly I don't have a bad thing to say about either bow, both bowyers are masters as far as I'm concerned.

Not only is Tom a master bowyer AND a fine gentleman, he's also an excellent shot! I was lucky enough to camp near him at Compton's 2 years ago and shoot with him,Ron Leclair, and a couple other fellas and Tom was top shot by far.

Austin....you nailed it about the Skookum being quiet. My buddy and I were discussing what Fred does differently than others that makes his bows absolutely the quietest bows I ever shot and I have no idea why they are. My Hyak is just as quiet as well.

Austin, Enjoy them both. They are both great bows. I had a Skookum many years ago that I loved ( but she was stolen ).

She was a 68' 72 @ 28" great bow and quiet. Some day I will replace her with one of a lighter draw wright.
