crack on limb???????????
« on: December 22, 2011, 06:32:00 PM »
i have a crack right in the center of the wood part on a laminate limb.  the bow is a T/D recurve, so i took the limb off and it seems that the crack goes from the end of the limb on the riser end to the hole where the bolt goes thru.  i don't see any cracks in the laminate part, just the wood.  will this possibly cause the limb to delaminate???

it is on a brand new bow.  it was there when i got it, and have shot it maybe 15-20x's so far.

thanks

First call should be to the bowyer, or if not a custom to the business you bought the bow from.  Most bows have good warranties and most bowyers are very good about standing behind their products.

At the very least the crack needs to be sealed so that it doesn't absorb moisture that would swell the wood and eventually cause it to fail.

I had read that a loctite 420 (I believe) was ideal.  But I've never found any.  Epoxy is good if the crack can be opened up a little and the resin force fed in.  Even clear finger nail polish will help seal it.

If the hole for the limb bolt hasn't been chamfered, see if the edges of the hole are sharp, it can cause a split like you described.
