New Hill Cheetah and Arrows

Hi All,

This is my first post as I have been lurking for a while and doing research on this great site.

Just ordered my first trad bow.

Howard Hill Cheetah 66'' 48#@28 Takedown
Should be here first part of August.

Asked Craig about arrows and spine and he recommended 55#-60#.  Anyone have opinions as to 3 Rivers or Kustom King hunter sets?  I really do not want to go all out before I know which arrows it is going to like.

Looking forward to using the info here as I feel out my move to traditional equipment.

With all of the extras, little over $700.

It was the best 2 piece custom takedown longbow for the money.  

Looking forward to making my own opinions about the bow as I have read all about these bows here and elsewhere.

Kustom King and Three Rivers are both reputable.  I've been shooting stickbows for more than 40 years, but just rediscovered Hills a year or so ago.  One would think, given that they're not cut very close to center, that you would need arrows spined at or even under the draw weight.  However, I've found that I can overspine my Hills by 10# or more, just as I do my other bows.  Take Craig's advice.  He knows what he's doing.  By the way, good choice.  Nice combination of lamination woods in the Cheetah.

Just get Craig to send you some arrows with the bow.That way you will have some to start with.After that you can go anywhere for arrows.

I had a cheetah as well, very pretty wood. I believe Jason still makes arrows at their shop. You really should have him match a set for you while you can have him do it together with all the inventory at hand.

I'm not a good one to advise you on arrows, as I only draw 25".  However, just for the record, I shoot 28" long 50 - 55# spined woods in all of my Hills from 45# to 52#.   ( 1916 Easton aluminums )     There is a little variation from bow to bow or from wood to alum., but by and large I can adjust it out mentally in one or two rounds.  Oh, yeah... love Cheetahs... have four of them.

Gabby at Kustom King has probably forgotten more about building wood arrows than  most will ever know, good choice. Elite arrows, a sponcer here, is well worth a look too.
For what its worth, I have found my hills shoot best with 10-15 pounds over spine at my 30" draw length so Craigs recommendation is probably right on for 28".


Incidently I ordered a Cheetah last week myself. Juniper back and belly limbs with three lams of tonkin cane sandwiched in between. Ebony riser sporting a laced black elk wrap and elk antler overlays on the limb tips... I vacilated over this more than a "Trailer Park Diva at a shoe sale" but now that I've placed my order I'm almost giddy with antisipation!!

Good choice on the Cheetah, been looking for a used one but don't know what I will do if I find one LOL kind of bow poor at the moment trying to pay off my longbowmans choice thats on order......stabow
