Tom Phillips' BearQuest hunt in La Tuque, Quebec, is an amazing experience- in a number of ways!  I would definitely recommend at least talking with him and getting the information packet as you research the idea.  His openings usually fill up early, but I think there may be a couple spots still available for 2012.

You can send Tom a PM here:  http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_profile;u=00009613

Or... do a search for BearQuest on this site, and be prepared for some fun reading!

hi a couple of years ago I went to saskatoon then drove to Carrot River and hunted with Walters Wilderness Camp.  It is a bows only camp and I got a nice bear.  I saw 8 with in bow range.

Eldon is a Tradgang sponsor and offers free hunts to kids who have a youth license and a paying adult. You will be placed only on an active unhunted bait. Some guide services won't let you to continue to hunt if you wound a bear...Eldon let's you keep on  hunting. He keeps over 100 active baits going for the seasons so everyone has a bait that is "virgin".

X2 For Tony and Lynn They are great folks who run a good operation. A lot of the folks on here have hunted with him as do the Langer boys and some of the Black widow boys.  He's a trad shooter himself and I think even has a trad week or bear.  Joe

Try Squapan Mountain Outfitters.  I have never been there, but a bunch from the Widow Wall are going this year, which is why I am going.  I feel if all these folks are signed up with this outfitter than it must be a good gig.

Smoothstone Lake Lodge in Saskatchewan. Two of my buddies and I went the last two years. We had 100% opportunity and took 5 bears in two years between the 3 of us. Two of those five had skulls over 18 1/2". Both of the bears I shot were color phase one brown and one blonde. The biggest bear shot by one of my buddies was 7'05" from nose to tail and weighed (on a scale) almost 400 lbs as a spring bear. This is a picture of my blonde bear from this year.

This is a link to the thread about my 1st bear hunt at Smoothstone that shows some pictures of the lodge and gives you more info if you are interested.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

would highly recommend true north outfitters in alberta.  Jeff the owner is a fantastic guy, very accomadating and they have world class bears. I believe my bear this year is under a thread entitled  I have a story to tell.  A friend and I both took 400+ bears with mine  skulling at 19 3/8 and my buddies over 20!  I shot a cinnamon and my buddy got a black but historically they shoot about  25% color phase.  They have a very nice website if you want more info..  Good luck

Thanks for the plug Randy but we are filled up for 2012 spring, we do have some great dates for the fall hunts however.
Maybe Rick Wiltshire will get in here and tell us about this last falls hunt.
