Good luck Ken, aim small    :D

We use to have a lot of fox here in North IA, we even had a fox club that would shoot them by the hundreds every year and never dent the population. Coyotes moved in heavy about 15yrs ago and they have dang near killed them off.

We can but choose not to shoot them around here anymore when hunting yotes. I sure would if we had a lot of them though!

Jason-  My grandfather tells many stories of the foxes he used to see back in the 70's.  Him and his hunting buddy took many of them.  Now, we're lucky to see them at all.  I guess it's a trade off now that the coyotes are thick.  I've seen 3 this year bow hunting where as most years I don't hardly see one.

Good luck Ken

A bow killed hat would be special but a nice grey would make a beautiful mount.

Let us see some pics and a story   :campfire:

My last hunting season when I lived in New Jersey, I called a fox in with mouth calling. Had it in range but didn't take the shot... He/She was hunting too and I knew it had kits in it's den.

I've shot a bunch of reds with the recurve when deer hunting.  Just lip squeek on the back of your hand...they love it!

Get someone else to do the calling so the fox's attention will be off you.

Good luck brother , I got one a couple years ago with my mojo stik it sure is special when you get one. I take the squeaker out of a dog toy and keep it in my vest pocket for that chance at a fox. Drew

Ken, I will join you at least once this winter.  I will be the caller as well.  I have a few squeaker calls including one where I can turn the volume way down.
Relax,

Getting that time of year for them...boys chasing girls. Rabbit in distress mouth call, early morning or full moon with some snow on the ground....doesn't get too much better than that.

Ken.....

Funny how animals go in cycles, the fox in your area this year maybe something else down the road. WE had a rash of bobcats one year, saw 6 or so from my stand, no shot but exciting to see. I did kill a grey fox several years ago with my bow... Good luck on your hunt
