Need some advice
«
on:
January 02, 2012, 10:40:00 PM »
I started shooting recurves split fingers and as I moved up in draw weight I pinched the nock cause the arrow to twist. I solved this by moving to three under. Now I think I'll go back to split because my previous anchor was my point on my tooth, and I don't think it will be to much of a stretch to place my middle finger in the same location retaining a similar sight picture. What do you guys think, and has anyone else flip flopped like this?
Thanks,
Adam

Adam, shoot whichever way your feel most comfortable, your brain will adapt to your choice, i shot split for 10 years and when i went 3 under my groups tightened dramaticaly.

Thanks Jeremy I'll most likely stay with split, but the only reason I shoot a bow is to hunt and I noticed a twang to my 3 under release.
Thanks again,
Adam

Oh yeah I'm obsessed, hahaha arrow flight is awesome and I have killed a few animals and placed high in a few 3d shoots, so I'm extremely happy with the arrow flight which also makes me a bit hesitant. To be clear I have a double nock
Thanks,
Adam

When you shoot split, make sure the drawing arm elbow isn't too high. That can cause that downward pressure on the nock.

I solved my problem with the downward pressure on the nock by using a spacer on my tab. Maybe I should look at my elbow height but am shooting pretty good(for me) with the spacer. Split shooter, double string nocks.

Went three under for a year. I switched back because the bow was noisier with three under. Unfortunately I hit two deer shooting three under but missed the firt two shooting split, and this was after 3 months of practice. Ouch!

Shoot whatever suits you. If twisting the string or arrow, are you using a brass string nock? Try tying your string nock. Much smoother release IMO.

That's some bad luck after the switch. I started with a tie on nocking point and shot like that until two years ago when I was sick and tired of the nocking point moving on the string. Now I have a brass and a tied one under it.

If you stay three under I suggest you have a tied on or brass nock over and UNDER your arrow nock on the string. If you ever have a loose nock it may slide down after release causing poor arrow flight and is a headache to figure out why.

I'm using the double nock, my issue is te noise three seems to make. My initial question was more directed towards the switch between split and three under. I guess I was wondering who's done it and how did it work for them?
Thanks for the great feedback, I'm looking forward to seeing for myself the different and maybe having something to share with the next guy.

My son switched from split to 3 under two years ago. Noise was the biggest drawback. Adam went from tab to glove and to a skinny string, and the noise is pretty much gone.

Hmm your son and I share many things I guess;) name, glove, string and three under. How many grains per # does he shoot for an arrow?
