Normally, for bows with center cut/near center cut shelves, the rule of thumb for wood arrows is 5-10# over what the archer is drawing with the bow.  So if you are drawing 45# then the arrows should be spined 50-55#.  This is a general rule.  I have found that 10-15# over works best for me with bows having deep cut shelves.  Make sure of your draw lengh.  If you are drawing more/less than 28" with the kodiak hunter this of course will change the amount of poundage you are pulling thus affecting what spine arrows to use.

I like cedar arrows.  Straight grain and pretty easy to straighten.  I get my arrows from 3 Rivers.  I here Kustom King makes good arrows as well.  There are probably some fine arrow makers on the vendors page of this website as well.

Good advice from above, but I would go with carbons. They are a little tricky to tune but once they are they will outlast woodies and alum. 10 to 1. If ya draw 28"s ya could shoot the goldtip entrada 600 cut to 29"s and 125-175  point weight out of that bow or a carbonwood 2000 cut to 29"s with 175-225 point weight as well! Shawn

Conedoggy... the traditional way of thinking is to use what works best and turns your crank (in that order.  ;)

Shawn's right about the durability of Carbons and there's something to be said for frugality... another traditional way of thinking.  ;)

If you realy want to have traditional looking arrows try making some cane arrows. They are like natures carbon. An may be tougher than carbon. I've shot both into a steel wall (oops!) The carbon splintered and was ruined the cane was fine.

Just to stir the pot a little.

Hi Cone,,
The Hunter is 48#@28" and its on the way,        ,sent it out tonight bud,,  I was at jays asking the gentle men about wood arrows,,He made a good point in that if you draw more than 26" add 3# per inch to your wood shaft,, I draw 28" on that hunter,, therefore I should shoot about a 54# shaft. This will get you real close to start with. That is exzactly what I was shooting out of it,,50-55's ceadar arrows..Likes'em real well,,125 gr tip too.

Now if you have a bow that is FF capable its going to throw all of that out of the window but the old bear isn't so your golden bud,,JB

I hope you enjoy the bow,,Its a real nice Bear,,
