Groves

I recently got my hands on a Groves Flame Hunter.
The bow is in mint condition, 62" long, 52#@28".
There was no string and the old owner had passed on.
Would anyone know what a good bracing height would be to start off with?
Thanks in advance.

I've shot Groves for many years. I always seemed to shoot best with a brace height between 7"-7.5" measured from the throat of the handle.
By the way, use ONLY a Dacron string!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Bill said...especially the part about Dacron strings. My Groves is braced at 7 1/4" and is both quiet and quick. Good luck with a real nice bow.

Didn't he make a Spitfire model also? Harold Groves? Killed my largest buck ever with a Groves years ago.

The Spitfire models were Dynastressed. There was a second step in the lay up process that created a more powerful power stroke. For many years Harold Groves held the word record broadhead flight shooting contest with one of his 56" Spitfires.

Funny thing happened a few years ago. I was visiting with my Aunt and cousins in Albuquerque, NM. The subject got around to my archery addiction. My aunt piped up and said she dated a bowyer. I asked her who it was and she said Harold Groves. She said he even made my cousins bows but the sold them years ago. Small world.

My 56" Spitfire lives up to it's name. One of the fastest and smoothest bows I've shot....and no FF strings.
