David, I guess I am missing something here. Why are you using fancy yew veneers and then snaking them. You could use straight grain yew and have an even smoother limb action.
The combinations you have going are really nice. I built Andy Cooper a longbow with that kind of cocabola. You can look up the thread and see what it will look like finished if you wish.
Sad thing is I finally ran out of it and have not been able to find any more of that quality.
God bless you, Steve

Not answering for David here, but....

I did a very deluxe recurve from the Silvertip shop a few years ago, and had it skinned with the finest set of copperheads I've personally ever seen. I told Dave he could use anything he wanted under the skins, and use quilted sapele on the belly. He advised me to go with the good veneers under the snake. His rationale was that this bow might be alive in 50 years, and somebody might want the skins off the bow. Would be a shame to have very plain veneers there.

Steve, to be honest, I did not know that a veneer could effect bow performance, I thought totally cosmetic. BUT, I did have non figured yew put on  the backs under the skin to bring out the okeetee rats brilliant colors without covering a great piece of yew.
Kevin, I never thought of that either. I always buy a bow thinking it will be mine forever, but that hardly ever happens.  Good point.
Mine will unfortunately have plain veneers under the skins...  :banghead:

Okay Everybody, the bow is here. I have to make antler limb bolts for it, but I wont make you wait for that!
It came out phenominal. It has standard 64" limbs with a longer riser custom made to get a 66" bow. I have a disk injury right now and should not do anything. BUT, I strung it and drew it back, I'm stupid but you would have done it too...... SMOOOOOTH as silk, just as I envisioned.
I'll post pics tonight, under the same title but a new post.  Wait till you see it, I hope you all appreciate it as much as I do.
Dave and Beth were great once again! This was a very careful project, and they are quite a team.
