Whistling broadhead

I found some Arrow Art cedars in an arrow box with three different broadheads on them. Still straight, haven't shot them in over 5 years. Tested them in my Zipper recurve and my selfbow. Fly great from the Zipper. Anyway, the 2 blade Snuffers whistle. The Zwickeys and Magnus do not. Heres the problem, I think it sounds cool  :cool:   Will it really effect my chances at less then 15 yards on whitetail?

Personally, I've shot my last 4 deer with 3 blade Snuffers and haven't had a deer react to the sound yet, and yes they whistle like a 8 YO walking through a grave yard.    I'm interested in a 2 blade snuffer though. Never seen one.

It will happen sooner ar later, and you wont be happy, to me it just makes more sense to have your arrows quite, and take out all the neg.variables, trad. hunting has enought challenges why add more and possibly injure a deer.jonesy

Thanks jonesy. I guess if I was shooting huge bucks like yours  I wouldn't even cosider shooting these heads    :eek: . Maybe I'll save them for bunnies and squirrels or just the practice range.

Many vented heads will whistle or hiss a bit due to the blade cutouts.  Some folks call it the "hiss of death".  Solid heads like the Zwickey and solid Magnus generally won't.  Snuffers or WW's will hiss at me unless arrow flight is perfect, but have never  noticed a deer to care.

The 2 blade Snuffers were made by Delta several years ago before Magnus took over the Snuffer line.  Same blade and ferrule design as the Snuffer, just in a 2 blade.  Many reports at the time said they failed easily.

A coworker and I once tried a little experiment to find out about the sound vented broadhead make. We went out to the range and took turns standing downrange (behind a very large enclosure) and had the other guy shoot broadhead tipped arrows past. We used a few different brands of heads, some with a very noticeable whistle, some with no sound. To the archer shooting you could hear the hissing arrows as soon as it left the bow.

Interestingly, to the person standing behind the enclosure you could hear the bow shoot but you couldn't hear the whistle until the arrow was past.

The reason we tried this was someone with a whole lot more experience related this to us. I thought it was bogus until I heard it. So, I no longer care if the arrow hisses downrange. I figure if the animal hears it the arrow came out of the ribcage and it's too late.

Owlbait Mike, it aint about shooting big deer its about making the outcome after the shot to be in your favor, and to not add any undo suffering to the animal we hunt big or small,your gear should be quite and deadly, period.... jonesy

I hunted with some of those "whistling" heads for a couple years. None of nine deer that ended up in my freezer seemed to mind the sound. If they didn't react to the sudden sound of the bowstring, I don't see a steady hiss changing things.

The sound may have bugged me to no end, but the deer couldn't have cared less.

My Pearson Dead Heads really whistle.  As long as it's the last thing the deer hears I don't care!
