Western Montana Snowshoes
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:16:00 PM »
Spent the day snowshoeing above my house lookin for bunnies to shoot.  Never saw a one?  Anyone know any good bunny spots in the Missoula area?  I spent a lot of time killin snowshoes in Wisconsin and would love to find some good spots out here.

I've floated the Clark fork and there was a lot of bunnies, that was spring time though.

I have had a hard time finding bunnies the last Two years. I think the hard winters we have had done them in. Use to see them every where now you are lucky to find a track around here.

Around here the snowshoes are on the down part of their cycle. Plus lots of coyotes and some lynxes keeping them in check. In a few years they should be on the up swing again.

I haven't been out since we got dumped on snowwise, but over here I've been seeing tracks but the snow was so light they could get under the wood piles and hunker down. Now that I've plowed myself out I'm going to try snowshoing in the powder up high. I am hearing from some other hunters that bunnies are down a bit over here, too.
