Three under/tuning change.
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:16:00 PM »
While shooting today I tried shooting three under and actually shot a whole lot better than with split fingers. First question is what can I expect in a tuning change? I went from split finger with my middle finger as my anchor am planning on changing to my index finger as my anchor and obviously three under.

My second question is can I reliably shoot my split finger tillered bows without any damage? Thank you for your input.

Matt,
The tiller of the bow should not matter.  But make sure to raise your nock point.   It should be about 3/4" above perpindicular.  Ya, alot higher than it was for split.

I would also put a second nock under the arrow. This will help with arrow flight. It keeps the arrow from sliding down the string upon release.

I switched several years ago and have not really had to raise my nocking point.  I don't know if that is normal or not of course I probably ain't real normal anyway.  I also anchor with my index finger in the corner of my mouth.

I recently started shooting 3 under as well. I had to raise my nock about a 1/4" from 3/8" above to 5/8" above. Aside from the bow being slightly noisier I can't tell much difference other than my accuracy and my index finger no longer feels like I hit it with a ball peen hammer!

I shoot 3 fingers under and find it easier. I never did shoot much with the split finger method.. I did have to raise my nock and touch depending on the bow poundage and arrow spine. Whatever the best flight would give me. Just play with your nock till you get good arrow flight.

Sounds like you have gotten what you need.  You may find a little different is arrow spine neeed.  I do.  something about how the  fingers come off the string and mabe pull angle. Nothing big, but I can see it in a bare shaft.

My tuning definately changed when I switched. My nock changed higher & I had to drop in spine on my carbons. I had way more trouble with arrow flight. I now shoot an elevated rest. One I got dialed in, I was a happy camper. I wont go back, I shoot way better three under.
