Bare shaft always kicks left???

Been playing with a new (to me) Great Plains recurve.  I've been bare shafting a variety of arrows, aluminum and carbon, and have found that everything kicks left and flies down range nock left regardless of spine.  I've definitely eliminated spine as I've tried a variety of shafts and point weights.  Opened up some nocks, too, just to make sure that wasn't the problem.  Any ideas?

The shafts are 29" and the bow is 45@28.  I draw 28.5".

I've tried 2016's, 2018's and CE 150's.

Seems that the point of impact with a fletched shaft is left of where it "should be"....not so much with the bare shaft....maybe fletch interference is the culprit.

I don't know about aluminum but I would say the 150's at 29" are too stiff.I would try a full length 600 deflection with weight tube if you have one.

Work on your release, it sounds like you are plucking the string an dthey are all stiff out of that set-up. ya may want to go to a 1916 or a carbonwood 2000 with 200 up front. The .600 entrada(GT) would fly for ya at 29.5"s with around 145 up front as well. Shawn

Steve you're running a little to a lot stiff with your arrows for that bow.

I got some 600's this week for my 45lb longbow bareshaft tuned them yesterday, ended up 29.5 with 145gr up front. They fly great.

Add some weight to the front end and it should break the spine down.

you could be torquing too,, make sure you hold that grip dead still when you shoot.

I am using 1916 Legacys out of a 45LB and a 50lb Great Plains SR Swift. With my 28" draw arrows fly fine out of both. They fly best out of the 50Lb so I tried 1816's out of the 45LB for comparison. Could of went either way but preffered the 1916's. Which Great Plains recurve are you shooting just out of curiousity?

The bow is 45@28 and I draw 28.5". I've tried CE 150's (29.5") with points from 90-250 grains as well as 2016's and 2018's. Even the 2018's with a 90g point fly and impact nock left and hit to the right (I'm RH) of fletched shafts.

With the 2016, which I believe should be the closest of the three, as I increase point weight the problem gets worse instead of better!!???

A 2018 with a 90 grain point is way, way overspined.

I shot 2018's for years out of a 53# curve with a 30" draw and 145 grain points.

A 2016 with a heavy point may get you there.

its your release because theres no way a 2018 should be nock left with a 90gr point--> that bow should be shooting 1916's w/100's from FF or 125's with dacron.  2016's or 2114's 125gr points with no problems.

if you are torquing that grip then thats nocking the back of the arrow towards the left.. its no doubt your form or one of your limbs is twisted...

A severly overspined arrow can leave the bow nock right hard enough to hit the riser and bounce it hard left. Coupled possibly with a release that might need work (most do - mine included)and you end up a false weak reading.

I just solved this VERY same problem today! Thought about posting this same question.

I have bareshafted 6 different arrows, most of which were carbons, out of my recurve in the past couple days. I have not shot in quite a while and ALL my shafts were hitting nock left severley. I adjusted everything on the bow several times and played the weight game with the carbons.

In the end, I simply adjusted my finger pressure on the string(letting my middle finger bare most of the weight)during draw and release and BAM,Im shooting bullets, consistantly. Bareshafts shooting dead straight and all.I was torqueing or plucking the string badly.I had a feeling it was my release but couldnt seem to nail it down.
I say definetly your release.
Try that before doing anything else.
