Testors paint and water based poly?
« on: February 12, 2012, 05:19:00 PM »
Has anyone ever had a problem with Testors paint and using water based poly. Just spent the morning cresting a half dozen arrows and when I went to poly the crest with water based poly the Testors broke down and ran all over. I have used Testors and floor water based poly with no problem, this time I used the rub on poly(water based, applied with a soft paint brush) and just ruined the crest. What do you think went wrong.

strange that anything water based would desolve testor's paint if it was dry. Is Testor's paint oil base? I crest with regular oil base enamel and over-coat with wipe-on polly (oil base) and never had a problem. I do let the cresting dry overnight.

James I had a single band at the bottom of my crown dip that was testors and dried for 3 days ans it also ran off when the poly hit it.

Testors is oil-based, I've always used the wipe-on poly over the dried cresting with good results. I have no idea why it would ruin the cresting...

Hopefully someone can explain before I spend even MORE money on arrow stuff that's incompatable! LOL

I have been using testors for over 20 years and I use a product called Zip Guard and it's a waterbase poly. I can dip the first arrow right after I finish the last arrow. I don't have to wait 24 hrs for it to dry. It has never ran.
