Wax Build Up on Bow Limbs
« on: February 15, 2012, 10:02:00 AM »
Looking for suggestions on how to remove wax build up off from bow limbs.  There is not a lot of wax but I can see different spots on the limbs where the string has touch it.  I have tried mild dish soap with hot hot but there still is a film.  Any thoughts?

For string wax buildup, scrape off what you can with your finger nail. To get it completely clean use lighter fluid soaked into a clean cloth to rub any residue off.  If you work fast it shouldn't hurt the underlying finish.  Once clean use a good quality floor or car wax on your limbs (true wax - some car "wax" is not true wax). I use Johnsons floor wax on my bows, a can will last a lifetime if you only use it on your bows.  The floor wax will make it easier to wipe off future build up and protect the bow.

Mineral spirits, WD-40, Goof-Off etc will all work without concern for damaging the finish.

Wrap your braids in wool and that won't happen again. You will also have a quiter bow for your efforts.

Great feedback.  I really appreciate it!  I have not wrapped any of my strings because I wasn't sure if it would affect performance.

I just did a few strings in the last week, one bow I could not quiet down so I tried it (it worked) it has no effect that I can tell.
