Very true Mudd. The spirit of the bow is very warming!

Sold my wheels in 1997 and haven't looked back!  Don't regret it one bit, had a lot of fun, met some incredible people, took some great animals, and found out what customer service means and that it is alive and well!! Enjoy the journey, it will move you deeply if you let it.

I bought my first trad bow in 1990.  I put my compound on consignment the same day.  Don't know why I started with wheels in the first place as I was never comfortable and knew the technology wasn't for me.
As others have already said, the friends I've met through traditional archery has made my life much richer.

Shelton,
I picked up a long bow 5 years ago.  Shot and shot, was prepared for my first fall without wheels 3 years ago.  That summer I suffered a shoulder injury which stopped all my shooting period.
By that fall, I was in the woods (but with a crossbow).  It took me 14 months to get back to where I could start shooting again.  I sold my crossbow and started hunting with my longbow last year.
Then one day I went out to shoot a few arrows before the next day's hunt.  For whatever reason, my performance was so dismal that it rattled my confidence to the core.  Unfortunately, the next morning instead of being in my stand, I was outside checking the sights on my wheel bow.
The ability to fall back on my compound when I had a bad day shooting pulled me out of the need to go back and work on the issues I had.
Right now, I'm shooting better than I ever have (even before my shoulder injury).  I really need to do what you did.  I admire your dedication to the sport.  Hope that, I too, can let go my "safety net."

Hang in there kem613. I have a slight tear in my left rotator cuff and I swear shooting trad helped to restrengthen it. Seems its more than just for the Soul. Be careful with it brother. It takes time. At least your slinging arrows.
Be safe.

I have the same issue with my rotator cuff and I can shoot a recurve or longbow hundreds of times a day and not have an issue, but I shoot 10 times with a wheelie bow and I will feel it the next day.  Not sure why but that;s what happens to me.

Yup. My thoughts were maybe since the long bow is sooooooo much lighter I'm not just holding the weight of the heavier wheelie, but also actually working the muscle by the repeated push. Getting older isNOT for babies (pun intended  ;) .
