Trad Question??

Hello guys & gals, I'm new to the world of traditional archery. I've shot training wheels for about 23 years and never learned anything traditional.
I bought a Don Dow longbow that is 51# at 28" draw and I absolutely love shooting it. I plan to hunt with it next season and have been trying to find a quiver. I always carry a stand on my back so a back quiver is out I think. I really don't like something on my leg either. I bought a Selway Slide-on quiver but think it is for the wider limbs on a recurve. When I put it on my bow it slides almost all the way down the limbs.
Can someone please tell me what kind of quiver would work!!!! How does the screw on quivers work?
I'm going at this alone and have very little help learning so any help is greatly appreciated. Mark

With a Selway it should slide down to the fadeouts of your riser and it should be snug there. The recurve model will just have lots of room to the side of the limbs as it is wider than a longbow's limbs. I highly recommend the Bow Mate Elite quiver. It keeps your fletching protected and hidden and it can be worn along with a pack or stand.

Your selway might be good, if you have any pics it would help... That said, they should fit on the fade out of the riser top and bottom.

Selway makes slide on and QD quivers for both longbows and recurves.  They even make a strap on version now.  Sounds like you got the recurve version of the slide on model. Selway is a good quiver, I got a slide on for my longbow.  My advice would be sell or trade yours on the classifieds and get the correct one for your longbow.  Selways website has videos that show all their models and how to mount them on a bow. A screw-on would attach using bushings in the riser, or attach via limb bolts on a take-down bow.

There are secure strap-on quivers, like the Two-Fletch or Kanati quivers. They are lightweight and stay snug. Some don't like the way they make the bow carry, but some swear that a bow quiver makes the bow feel more stable at the shot.

It is a very subjective choice.

My favorite bow quiver is a Thunderhorn.  I use the "small fry" (4 arrow) in the Boa model (strap on).  Mounts very securely.

You need to give Don a call at Eagles Flight Archery and discuss with him what yopu are looking for.  I just got introduced to his products this past weekend and ended up with two quivers (recurve and longbow).  IMO, I think they are some of the most stable and light weight quivers out there that balances very well with the bow.

Great northern strap on quiver is a pretty darn good quiver.  Those things are solid and last forever.

There are some great strap-on quivers made but my personal preference is a tubular side quiver. I strap this to my climbing stand when hiking in and the arrows & fletches are fully protected even if I fall down. It also can easily be hung on a pack or from the tree once in the stand.
